Here are a couple of additions that arrived by e-mail...
Well, I thought I had blogged...but evidently it didn't "take"...I had
responded that I would be bringing a honey chicken dish...See you Friday.
Debbie Chinworth
I'm having trouble with that Blogger stuff. Edith spent a bunch of time this
morning helping me, but I never got in. Anyway, I'll bring one of those veggie
pizzas - you know fresh veggies on a crescent roll crust.. yummy?
Peggy Gilbert
Since there are several desserts already, I will bring a Beef and Carrot Tzimmes. I hope someone can tell me what a tzimmes is. The dish does have some honey in it.
Amy Shively
And Kathy Hawkins decided to bring a potato and veggie dish instead of chicken since it looks like we'll have other chicken as well as Amy's beef dish.
Susan Klingler said she just might come and not bring anything since she'll be lucky to get out of the house at all on the night before Maia leaves for Italy. It sounds like we'll have plenty of food so Susan, you get a free pass this time!
And yes, Anne, I can promise you we won't banish you to the garage.
See you tomorrow!
Susan
Thanks Susan for blogging me!
I am reading the book for the second time and enjoying it as much, if not more than the first. Happy reading everyone!
I would like to bring fruit. I want everyone to notice the platter that I am bringing. I bought it with our book club in mind. (On the sale rack, of course.)
Now, a hat.......
Hi, Sally, Jenny and Kathy and whoever else joins in--
I'm glad you were able to figure out how to join the blog. I thought this might be a really neat way to communicate about our book club activities.
I really loved reading about the community of women in Secret Life of Bees and how they sort of hovered around ready to lend assistance at any moment to one another in times of trouble. I crave that sort of relationship, and I think that's probably part of our inspiration for choosing to be part of this book group. But life is busy and things often interfere with our intentions to be present with one another. So maybe this can help to fill in around the edges and keep us in touch during the two month intervals between meetings.
Have a good week.
Susan
Welcome to the new communication tool for the book club inaugurated January 24 at the initial meeting at ReneƩ McFadden's house. As you've probably heard, those of us who attended that meeting selected the books to read for the rest of this year, and planned the meeting dates.
Our first book is The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. We'll be discussing it on Friday, March 21 at my house. Plan to come at 6:30. I'll provide the beverages, rolls, and eating utensils. You'll need to bring part of the meal.
I think since honey is such an integral part of the book, it's only appropriate that we feature honey in the foods we bring. Worth promised to bake us some honey wheat rolls and then politely disappear. As you read the book, you may come up with other ideas. Or you may have recipes of your own that feature honey (or not, it's up to you!)
Rather than having me assign foods to you, I thought we could communicate our plans through this blog. If you've gotten as far as reading this, you're halfway through figuring out how to respond. Once you've decided what to bring, let us know. If it takes you awhile to figure out what you plan to bring, check back to the blog to see if our meal plan looks balanced so far.
If you can't figure out how to participate in the blog, e-mail me to let me know whether you're planning to attend the meeting and what food you'd like to bring.
By the way, hats are optional!
And if you can't attend the meeting but have comments or questions about the book, post them here and we'll include them in the discussion.
By the way-- after you finish typing your response, click on the button that says "Post and Publish".
Happy blogging!
Susan Weller
